Jennifer Jo Cobb Partners With Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build

Kansas City native to serve as 2008 spokeswoman for Heartland Chapter

KANSAS CITY, KS (May 30, 2008) – Jennifer Jo Cobb has piqued the curiosity of fans and the media throughout her career, by pursuing her passion of racing, despite the perception of NASCAR being “just for men.” That very stigma was an integral part of the Heartland Habitat for Humanity’s (HHfH) decision to name one of the very few top-level female NASCAR drivers, and Kansas City’s own, Jennifer Jo Cobb, as the spokeswoman for their 2008 Women Build project.

“We are very excited to have Ms. Cobb as this year’s spokesperson,” said Delia Hernandez, HHfH Development Director. “About fifty percent of Habitat for Humanity’s volunteers are women, but often they make up less than fifteen percent of the workers on a construction site. Ms. Cobb’s experience in a male-dominated sport makes her a great role model, and an example of the impact women can have in our community.”

Cobb will take a pit stop from her racing duties to join the Heartland volunteers at the build site for groundbreaking and blessing ceremonies.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Heartland Habitat Women Build, and cannot tell you how excited I am to help raise awareness of the project and the need for volunteers,” said Cobb. “The Women Build is an awesome opportunity for not only women to pull together as a team, but for men to rally behind them and
show their support for the cause as well.”

The HHfH Women Build program enables women from all walks of life to serve as primary volunteers on an HHfH build site. On-site, women are encouraged by other women to tackle all aspects of construction, and quickly become skilled, engaged volunteers and crew leaders. Volunteers also will work closely with families earning the “sweat equity” hours required to purchase a Heartland Habitat home.

“This is a great team-building opportunity for you and your co-workers, your church group, book club, or simply a group of your friends,” said Cobb. “So join them Wednesday, June 4 from five to eight for their kickoff event, “Señoritas and Margaritas”, at Cantina #1 in the LEGENDS at Village West, and find out how you can get involved in building a new home for a worthy family.”
